Mitch Richmond: One of the Underrated Greats

Mitch Richmond: One of the Underrated Greats Tube. Duration : 5.53 Mins.

This segment originally aired in '97. It struck a cord with me personally at the time & still does, because when one mentions some of the All Time Great 2-Guards, his name RARELY comes up & when U ask people why, they more or less, don't give him that just due because he allegedly, lacked the showmanship of a MJ or Drexler or Miller. This guy averaged OVER 20ppg the 1st 10 years of his career & he DID IT in the TOUGHEST defensive era EVER! With no help a that! Imagine if he just had the physical ability of MJ circa 1996-98, he would've been even more of a beast than his peers knew he was, but yet many fans, just didn't get how TRULY great he was. During those years for the Kings, he was option 1, 2 & 3 & was being doubled & tripled team EVERY NIGHT!!

Michael Jordan vs Mitch Richmond - Shootout (Jan 30, 1997) Tube. Duration : 8.72 Mins.

The Chicago Bulls continued their 4-game win streak when they defeated the Sacramento Kings Thursday night at the ARCO Arena, 111-93. Still without the suspended rebounding machine Dennis Rodman, the Bulls controlled their opponents for the most part. Michael Jordan turned his ankle in the 3rd quarter but was able to return. He finished with 32 points (on 11-for-19 shooting) and 6 rebounds. Scottie Pippen added 22 points (9-for-17) along with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Toni Kukoc (7-for-11), Jason Caffey (5-for-8) and Randy Brown (5-for-5) all played their roles exceptionally well. Mitch Richmond, Western Conference Player of the Week, had 28 points (12-for-26), 9 rebounds and 6 assists, but was held to 5 points in the final quarter -- a period he often dominates -- while Jordan scored 9 points during a 13-4 Chicago run down the stretch. The win gave Chicago a 39-5 record in the Eastern Conference.
