Bulls vs. Pistons 1984-85 - Rookie Jordan saves the day Tube. Duration : 10.67 Mins.
March 12, 1985 64 games into the 1984-85 season, Bulls are 30-34. Prior to this game, they lose two straight and this game becomes a must win as every game is crucial to earn a playoff spot. It's a heated game from the start with some hard fouls throughout the first 3 quarters. Then the brawl at the start of the 4th makes the game even more intense. Rookie Jordan comes to the rescue by scoring 14 of his 32 points in the final quarter, including 4 straight clutch free throws when the game is on the line. Bulls snatch the win in a nail-biting finish. Among other things, Jordan tries three no look passes in this game. The first one is unsuccessful, but he doesn't get discouraged as both of his next tries are good. Finishes with 32/8/4. There was no official record for steals but I saw at least 4 some of which are in the video. Kevin Loughery gives permission to broadcast one of his final timeouts and I thought it would be good to include that. Also included Jordan's last free throws unedited. (And yes, I included all Jordan replays that were available in the broadcast.) A couple of things to mention: Broadcasters had technical problems at the start of the game and missed game's first two baskets. Unfortunately, both of them were by Jordan (one dunk, one 18 footer). At halftime, they show the dunk. So, we miss only the 18 footer. They somewhat miss another Jordan basket when they are showing the replays of the brawl. (not replayed) There were minor sound problems with the ...
Michael Jordan 1996: 53 pts Vs. Grant Hill & Pistons Video Clips. Duration : 7.23 Mins.
Grant Hill was the best player this side of MJ for a moment. When MJ retired the first time, Hill was picked to carry the torch. Of course this was unfair but Hill was unbelievable before he went down with the ankle injury. He was posting Lebron type numbers in 2000 while playing better defense. His complete game and unselfishness assured that he would be an all-time great. MJ, however, came back from retirement and had to put his foot down. Shooting an illegal 78% in this game, MJ would shoot 14-16 in the second half and 21-28 overall for 53 points. Hill struggled at 5-16 for 13 on the other end. MJ was in his super-zone and his jumper was flowing like water. His fadeaway was picture perfect. The older and wiser 33-year-old MJ even enjoyed his own brilliance with laughter instead of wearing his traditional raging-fury-scowl. Of course the side note was that MJ's nemesis Dumars was also on Hill's team. But, that stayed as a side note here. It's painful to see Hill here before he went down in his prime because of what could have been. We're glad that he's back and doing well now but his best years have been taken away from us and that's invaluable. Thankfully, MJ carried his own torch.
Michael Jordan 1988: 59pts Vs. Detroit Pistons on CBS Tube. Duration : 6.37 Mins.
This is the single most important game of the modern basketball era. Also, it kept solidifying the fact that MJ saved his best for the best teams. MJ rarely cared to score big against poor teams unless he had to since it was a chance to get the team to play. In MJ's first 19 games vs. Detroit, he averaged 36ppg including a 61pt spanking the year before (a game I also have edited on youtube.com). After this 59pt game on national TV on Easter Sunday in front of a record crowd at Detroit, the Pistons' coach Daly had enough. He vowed never to let MJ beat them again. Born was the beginning of the most awesome defense ever - "The Jordan Rules". The basics of the defense were to 'funnel MJ to the middle so the big guys could knock him on his butt'. But, the defense was so specific that there was a rule for what to do wherever MJ had the ball. Go here: sportsillustrated.cnn.com The "Jordan Rules" went on to revolutionize the game - making defense win championships. The Pistons went on to win two titles and their 'bruiserball' defense on Jordan forced the NBA to invent the flagrant foul. The Knicks and the Heat copied this football style and soon, the league's scoring plummeted. MJ, still scoring 30+ ppg was unaffected with his insane skills but the league itself couldn't score. We saw in the 90s, slow games with teams scoring just 60 points each with no one able to make any shots. After MJ retired, the NBA tinkered with the rules to get scoring back up and today, we are still ...

Chicago Bulls - Detroit Pistons | 1991 Playoffs | ECF Game 4: Bad Boys are History Video Clips. Duration : 9.85 Mins.
They ended years of frustration. They ended the Detroit Pistons' two-year reign as champions. And now, the Chicago Bulls can begin thinking about playing in the NBA finals for the first time. Making it look easy, the Bulls completed a four-game sweep of the Pistons with a 115-94 victory today at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Chicago dominated the Eastern Conference finals from start to finish, brushing aside the proud Pistons as if they were a nuisance instead of the defending champions. "To say that this is unexpected, to sweep this team, is an understatement," said Phil Jackson, Chicago's coach. "But after losing to this team for three years, I think we deserve a shot." The Pistons tried physical play, lineup changes and anything else they could think of to avoid being dethroned at home. None of it worked. The Bulls were too determined, too poised and too good to be denied. And now, Michael Jordan (29 points on 11-for-17 shooting along with nine rebounds, nine assists) and the Bulls have an impressive 11-1 record in the playoffs. "We didn't want it any other way," said Jordan, who added more luster to his extraordinary seven-year career by reaching the NBA finals for the first time. "We wanted to beat Detroit. That way, there wouldn't be any tarnish to what we accomplished. We surprised a lot of people, and we surprised ourselves. We didn't feel we could sweep this team, but we knew we could beat them. We had to accept every beating, every push and every elbow they gave ...
Michael Jordan 1989 Playoffs: 32pts, Gm 6 vs. Detroit Pistons Video Clips. Duration : 13.37 Mins.
As the world currently ululates against Lebron James' recent shortcomings in the 2011 NBA Finals, it is just another reminder of how truly impenetrable the sanctity of Michael Jordan's legacy is. Thanks to Scottie Pippen's mentioning of Lebron in the same sentence as MJ just before the Finals, it served as a harbinger of things to come when anyone is compared to MJ; that is - the laughable absurdity of comparing anyone to MJ at all. While it is disastrous to compare anyone to the level of mastery MJ was able to attain, it can be intriguing to see another great player at the same age or arc in their careers. In this famous game, MJ is also age 26 and facing what would become that year's champion Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Finals. MJ is also down 2-3 games and facing elimination. But that's where the similarity ends. With Pippen out in the first minute with a concussion and MJ battling a groin/thigh injury, MJ truly became a one man gang and attacked Game 6 with all of his weapons blazing - going out with absolutely no bullets. In what was one of the most aggressive and inspiring performances ever in a loss, MJ initiated or was wholly involved in what appeared to be 99 of 100 plays. Whether it was scoring, passing, asserting his dominance while simultaneously uplifting his teammates, being the defensive stopper or plugging holes as the utility man - the passion, skill, and intensity with which MJ played was a spiritual experience. In the end, one can sense the seething ...

Bulls vs. Pistons - 1990 Playoffs Game 4: Jordan 42pts Video Clips. Duration : 9.70 Mins.
Pistons were on track for their second straight NBA championship in 1990. In the Eastern Conference Finals they won the the first two games in Detroit and lost the third game in Chicago after a 47 point performance by Jordan. In this 4th game, Bulls opens up a big lead early on and finishes the half with a 19 point lead. (51-33). As expected Pistons does not go away easily and cut down the lead to just 3 points at the end of third. 19 of Jordan's 42 points comes in the fourth quarter when they desperately foul him virtually on every occasion he drives the lane. The only Bulls players to sink a shot in the final quarter are Cartwright (2) and Paxson (1). Jordan finishes with 42pts (13-26), game-high 9 asts, 4 rbs, 4stls, and 3 blks. Pippen who has 14pts/6rbs is in foul trouble most of the game. Grant with 11 points. Paxson is the best of the supporting cast with 17 points and 7 assists. For the Pistons, Rodman has a great night with 20 points 20 rebounds (10 offensive). Isiah finishes with 26/8/8 but both he and Dumars struggle against the half court trap implemented by the Bulls which cost them a total of 22 turnovers. Defensively The Bulls are great. In fact, after the game Phil Jackson says this is the best game they played all year. ---------------------------------------- Some notes and post game quotes from the game: "As (Bulls coach) Phil Jackson said last game, Jordan ruled," Pistons coach Chuck Daly said. "He did it again. He got his 40." "The Bulls intensity in ...
Although Jordan was here in his prime jumping, the Pistons packed the lane with her big body to shoot him from dunking in the game, while forcing him 11-26, a pretty terrible FG% of its standards to deny. Dumars decided a sticky defender, every shade of his movements, MJ uncorked its patented, reload-bridge hang time again - that was as satisfying as any dunks. MJ led his young bulls on the goal line against the Pistons elite with his unique athleticism but the Pistons' bigPoints in the paint was too much at the end. Isiah Thomas' incredible clutch play and buckets helped a little. The intensity of the game was to finish just a taste of what in the coming years.
The Detroit Pistons are frustrating other teams used to defend themselves. Now the Chicago Bulls is to do them. The pistons are establishing early momentum in a playoff series. Now the Bulls have done to them. Chicago took another step towards reaching the National Basketball Association championship series tonight with a 105-97 victory over Detroit at Chicago Stadium. The Bulls lead the four-of-seven-game series, 2-0 to play with Game 3 Saturday afternoon will be in AuburnHills, Mich. After the beating they suffered this evening to see the Pistons as if they are three days to take advantage of rest. Chicago's tenacious defense harassed the Pistons in turnovers, forced them to take bad shots, and made the most trips down court about as pleasant as a trip to the dentist. No NBA team has a four-of-seven-game series after falling behind, 2-0, won in 1977. But to avoid than twice dethroned champion, that's exactly what the Pistons need to do. "They took us out of our offense anddominated in every phase, "said Pistons coach Chuck Daly." Right now, they look hungrier than us. I was the score close until the end, as they. "Dominated Michael Jordan (35 points on 10-for-18 shooting support, 7) and Scottie Pippen (21 points, 6-for-15 from the field, 10 rebounds) led surprisingly balanced Bulls attack. Jordan scored 27 points in the second half, but his teammates set the tone by early Detroit for double-teaming Jordan. Nothing Daly worked for pay. He beganTree ...
